Principles

The lines we will not cross.

This industry has a shady edge to it. These are the rules that decide which side of it we are on, and we would rather lose a deal than break one.

Check us, do not trust us

Every public claim we make is written down, with its source and whether it stands up. So are the ones we have withdrawn. The register is public, and so is its history: a web page can be edited quietly, a repository cannot. If we ever correct something, you can see exactly what it said before.

◈ The line

We will never build a watermark remover, a tool for getting past detectors, or anything designed to help AI writing pass as human.

Proving where something came from is the entire point of this company. Helping something hide where it came from is the opposite of that, and no amount of money makes those two things fit in the same business.

01

Evidence beats guesswork

If a document carries a signature or a watermark, that decides the answer. A statistical guess about writing style can suggest something worth looking into. It can never settle anything on its own.

02

Finding nothing proves nothing

We will never let "no signal found" be read as "a human wrote this". It does not mean that. Every result we produce says so on its face, not in a footnote.

03

We support a decision, we do not make it

A report from us is something a person uses to decide. It is not the decision. No score we produce can, by itself, accuse anyone of anything.

04

The accused get a way to answer

Being wrongly accused is the worst thing that happens in this field, and it happens to real people. So we build for the person on the receiving end too, including giving authors a way to show their work.

05

We publish our own error rates

We say how our method performs, including the sample sizes, including where we are uncertain, and including where we have been wrong. When we get something wrong in public we correct it in public. Trust comes from being checkable, not from sounding confident.

06

We keep as little as possible

Your document is not written to disk and nothing about its contents goes into our logs. We do not send a manuscript anywhere else without asking you first.

07

We are on the side of the rules

We help organisations meet their transparency duties under the EU AI Act. We are not looking for ways around it, and we will not sell one.

If any of these ever stops being true of us, it will be because we changed it deliberately and said so here, with the date. How this company started →
