Try it

See what a file says about where it came from.

Pick one of the three examples below and the answer appears underneath in a few seconds. You can also send your own file. Most files carry no record at all, and when that happens this page says so plainly.

Step 1 of 2

Click one of these three files

You do not need a file of your own. Click any line below and we will check it for you. The first two are the same PDF. One tiny piece of it was changed. Watch the answer change.

Step 2 of 2 · the answer

Nothing checked yet. Click one of the three buttons above and the answer will appear right here.

Or send something of your own

Paste some writing, or choose a file from your computer. Nothing is saved and nothing is logged, but this is a test service, so please do not send anything confidential.

The two PDFs are an official public test file signed by Adobe, taken from the c2pa-org/public-testfiles repository, CC BY-SA 4.0. This page uses the real service, not a pretend one.

The three answers you can get

There are only three. Every file you send comes back as one of them.

NO RECORD FOUND

Nothing to read

The file carries no record of where it came from. This is what you will see most of the time, and it is normal. It does not mean a person wrote it and it does not mean a machine did. It only means nobody left a record.

RECORD FOUND, AND IT HOLDS

The record matches the file

The file carries a signed record and the file still matches it. We tell you who signed it, if we can check who they are. Nothing about the file has changed since it was signed.

RECORD FOUND, BUT BROKEN

The record no longer matches

The file carries a record, but the file no longer matches it. Something changed after it was signed. Even one letter is enough to show this.

We never tell you that a person wrote something, because nobody can know that. We only tell you what the file itself can prove. What we check, and what we cannot →
